Mircom Wins Engineering Project of the Year Award
VAUGHAN, ON, CANADA – February 6, 2017 – The Mircom Group of Companies is proud to announce winning first place for Engineering Project of the Year by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), York Chapter, for our newly constructed engineering extension.
Mircom’s project, ‘Mircom Headquarters – The Making of an Intelligent Building,’ was evaluated on the following four criterion: Innovation, Technical Merit & Distinction; Sustainability; Commercial Viability; Impact to York Region and/or neighbouring communities. After a successful presentation before a panel of judges on January 28, 2017, Mircom won first place in its respective category.
Mircom’s engineering extension is a state-of-the-art working facility designed especially for collaboration and innovation. It also serves as a real-life working demo of intelligent building solutions. With the engineering expansion, the facility now provides a unique, state-of-the-art "living laboratory" where customers can experience the company’s products first hand. Mircom's approach is unique, and the new headquarters provides one of the only live intelligent building tour experiences for the growing City of Vaughan.
As an important economic anchor to the new City of Vaughan Metropolitan Center, Mircom's intelligent building has attracted many provincial dignitaries, including Minister Sorbara and Minister Schultz, as well as federal dignitaries, including a visit by Prime Minister Hn. Stephen Harper in 2016.
“We’re incredibly thrilled to receive this prestigious award,” said Jason Falbo, VP of Engineering, Mircom Group of Companies. Jason added, “The smart building project at Mircom headquarters successfully demonstrates Canada's capability to drive innovation and show leadership in the emerging global intelligent building/building Internet of things (BIOT) markets. Leveraging a strong local talent base, world class academic institutions, and forward thinking leaders, Mircom, together with the City of Vaughan, is investing time, money and effort to brand York Region as a destination of choice for engineering talent moving to Canada.”
Privately owned with a long-standing history in the fire and security arena, Mircom is now also making its mark in the intelligent building and life safety market, designing, manufacturing and distributing solutions sold in over 100 countries worldwide.
