Mircom
is a
proud sponsor of the Weekend to End Breast Cancer in Toronto on
September 9, 10 and 11, 2005.
Norma Kinitz of
Mircom Vaughan, along with her three sisters, has again taken on the
challenge to walk the full 60 kilometers, over two days, to raise
funds for Breast Cancer Research and Princess Margaret Hospital.
In 2004 this team of
four women raised over $10,000 towards this worthy cause and they
have challenged themselves to beat that in 2005. They raise funds
through personal contributions of family, friends, business, garage
sales, selling chocolates and soliciting donations at their local
retail stores. Norma says, “We are amazed at the generosity and
kindness of the people we have met through this endeavour and we
also thank Mircom for getting us started with their generous
contribution. Once we completed the walk in 2004 we quickly
decided we wanted to do it again even with the aching muscles,
blisters and lost toenails. The feeling of giving back is what has
driven us to register again. The final 5 km. were the most
challenging and the most emotional. Crossing the finish line, there
wasn’t one of us without tears of joy, elation and at the same time
a deep sense of grief for those who have been taken by breast
cancer.”
Along with the
fundraising has been the physical training to prepare them for the
walk. “We did it last year, so we can do it again this year”.
Daily walks and workouts are the key, along with regular longer
walks over 5 km.
