Speech delivered by Mayor Michael Di Biase for the Mircom Opening

Good afternoon. I am very pleased to be here to celebrate the grand opening of Mircom’s new home in the City of Vaughan.

I wish to congratulate Tony Falbo and his staff, and the many people involved in building this state-of-the-art facility.

Over his 40 years in business, Tony Falbo has shown a strong commitment to quality production and safety. Mircom is a great example of a locally-owned enterprise that has flourished in our business environment. I am proud to say that your company represents our city very well.

One of my most enjoyable duties as the Mayor of Vaughan is to welcome new businesses to our City and, like today with Mircom, participate in expansion celebrations.

Vaughan is Canada’s fastest-growing city and this means there are new opportunities for businesses to succeed. Our spectacular rate of population growth has been equalled by the pace of new construction. For each of the past four years, Vaughan has broken the one-billion dollar mark in new construction. This year, about one-half of all new construction is in the commercial, industrial and institutional sector. This is an indication of a very healthy local economy.

In the final analysis, however, people make the difference. Our business people are members of a community, and this business community is proud to be part of the “City Above Toronto”. It is, indeed, this “community spirit” that makes Vaughan great.

I am proud to welcome Tony Falbo and Mircom to this new location as valuable members of our community. I wish you continued success in the future. Thank you.
