Mircom staff raise funds for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer

MIRCOM is a proud sponsor of the Weekend to End Breast Cancer in Toronto on September 10-12, 2004.

Norma Kinitz of Mircom Vaughan, along with her three sisters, has taken on the challenge to walk the full 60 kilometers, over two days, to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research and Princess Margaret Hospital. The photo above is Norma and her eldest sister, Helen Taylor, soliciting donations at their local LCBO.

So far this team of four women have raised over $8,000 towards this worthy cause (and they aren’t stopping yet). They have raised funds through personal contributions of family, friends, businesses, garage sales, selling chocolates and standing for two Saturdays outside their local retail stores soliciting donations. Norma says, “We are amazed at the generosity and kindness of the people we have met through this endeavour and we also thank Mircom for getting us started with their generous contribution. All four of us have already appreciated the experience of preparing for this event. It has been one of the most satisfying experiences of my life.”

Along with the fundraising has been the physical training to prepare them for the walk. These ladies range in age between 47 and 61, so the physical training has been equally as challenging as the fundraising, but they remain undaunted. They are walking daily and have completed walks of up to 20 kilometers just to get in shape for that weekend.

If you would care to contribute towards this team of ladies, then go to the website www.endcancer.ca and click on “Sponsor a Participant” and search out the name of Norma Kinitz. There you will find photos, you can read about their personal reasons for participating in this worthy cause and track their ongoing progress in raising contributions.
