Hacking Mircom Telephone Access Systems

Response to Misleading information published on the Internet about Security in Mircom Technologies Telephone Access Systems.

Reading online information published by hacking enthusiasts could lead some owners of telephone entry systems (whether made by Mircom Technologies or others) to worry that their system does not provide the level of security that they should expect. In reality, there is absolutely no information provided by the authors of these publications that supports such an ignorant and irresponsible claim:

  1. The ‘hacking’ information being published is simply a reproduction of a commonly available system installation manual - with a statement that a master programming code is required to override the system (much like the PIN number you use with your debit card). Not only is the master code never identified in the published article, it is nearly impossible to find otherwise. Even the original installer of a telephone system typically does not know the master code default number.
  2. The ‘hacking’ information published is over 5 years old and applies to obsolete telephone entry systems. Today, Mircom Technology telephone entry systems do no utilize fixed master code default numbers.
  3. Hackers’ have suggested that telephone entry systems should supply ‘high security’ building/tenant protection. Unfortunately, telephone entry systems are primarily designed to provide building tenants with a convenient way to open a (locked) front door for guests without having to come down to the lobby to do so.

True electronic security protection for residential buildings requires a professionally installed access control system. Mircom Technologies offers a fully integrated card access security system as a simple add-on to our newest TX3 Series telephone entry systems – combining both tenant convenience and professional security together in one package.
