New Board to Guide Future Expansion of Health Services in Southwest York Region

Richmond Hill, ON – York Central Hospital is pleased to announce the restructuring of its Board of Trustees as an important first step in creating a new vision for health care in Southwest York Region. That vision promises an expanded health care system with hospital sites in both Richmond Hill and Vaughan. With a goal of integration, innovation and excellence in health services delivery and patient care, this exciting transformation is the result of the collaboration between York Central Hospital and the Vaughan Health Campus of Care.

In fulfilling the terms of the Collaboration Agreement, the Board renewal process was led by a Community-based Nominations Committee. Through newspaper advertisements, the Committee received over 150 applications from experienced and interested members of the public and the process resulted in 24 Board members.

“As a result of the hard work and dedication to date, we have assembled an outstanding Board membership that will move us forward and provide governance to our goal of delivering expanded health services to the community,” said Warren Collier, Interim Chair, York Central Hospital’s Board of Trustees.

“I am looking forward to working with our new board as they bring their considerable talent, skills and experience to bear on the exciting opportunities before us.”
Among the new members of the York Central Hospital’s Board of Trustees are a number of high profile individuals who bring valuable governance and leadership experience from senior positions in government, academia and business. These include: Michael DeGasperis, Quinto Annibale, Sam Ciccolini, Mark Falbo, Margaret Mottershead, Sheila Neuberger, Dina Palozzi, Mamdouh Shoukri and Mayor of Vaughan Linda Jackson (see attached Member biographies).
The Board of Trustees is fortunate to have retained a number of existing members with extensive backgrounds in banking, health care, law, project management and communications. Returning members include: Warren Collier, John Mills, Jo-anne Marr, Dr. Larry Grossman, Shafiq Ebrahim, Lou Fortini, Tony Genco, Louis Greenbaum, Mark Liddy, Heather Martin, Daisy Wai, Dr. Nick Voudouris, Dr. David Weizman, Dr. Hien Ta and Mayor of Richmond Hill David Barrow. Teddene Long, who was appointed in 2009, will also be returning as a Honourary Trustee (see attached Member biographies).

“This marks the commencement of a journey of transformation in health care for the communities of Vaughan, Richmond Hill and beyond,” said Michael DeGasperis, Chair of the Board’s new Development Committee, member of the Board’s Executive Team, and Chair of the Vaughan Health Campus of Care, at the first meeting of the new Board. “I am excited to be a part of this journey as it represents an opportunity for the communities served by York Central Hospital and the Vaughan Health Campus of Care to come together and collectively build a regional health system that now includes a two-site hospital model.”
The combination of new and existing board members creates an impressive slate of trustees who will volunteer their time and expertise to help build a new regional health system over two sites to better meet the health care needs of Canada’s fastest growing urban community. Their skills and experience make them well qualified to provide the stewardship and independence required for effective governance.

“I want to extend my thanks to the members of Community-based Nominations Committee for their dedication and commitment in selecting such an outstanding group of individuals to help guide the future development of health care services in Southwest York Region,” added Mr. Collier.
